A number of Chiropractic techniques are used here to suit different needs and circumstances.

Around 70% of patients receive a blend of Diversified (manual adjusting), and Drop-piece (utilising features of the adjusting table). The majority of new patients receive this system of adjusting initially, to deal with the more urgent aspects of their problems.

Around 20% of patients at this practice receive Advanced Biostructural CorrectionTM technique.  In addition to the benefits of normal adjusting techniques, this system allows for the treatment of additional spinal structures that can abnormally affect spinal motion and posture.

The remaining techniques used include use of the Activator adjusting instrument,  variations of kinesiology (for menstrual/infertility problems), and Visceral techniques (mostly for gut problems).

Details.....

Diversified
This is one of the more common Chiropractic techniques used to correct the biomechanics of the spine. A combination of indicators are used to determine which areas of the spine are not moving appropriately. By properly positioning the patient, the joint in question is isolated, and a specific force is applied in the right direction to generate movement in the joint again. Usually a pop or click is heard, but is not necessary. It’s normally a comfortable process, and the patient is often aware of considerable changes/relief straight away.

Drop-Piece
This technique utilises a “cock-and-release” mechanism built into sections of the adjusting table. Mostly used for adjusting the larger joints of the pelvis, this method can also be used for adjusting other areas of the spine. This method can be very useful for joints that are older, and more degenerated, where it is often more difficult to get extra movement. From the patient’s perspective, it is a very easy, comfortable way of being adjusted - particularly for the neck in older patients.

Advanced Biostructural Correction TM
This is a more complex system of spinal assessment and correction. Based on research by neurosurgeon, Dr. Alf Breig, this system includes removing “meningeal adhesions”, which prevent the spinal cord sliding freely within the bony canal of the spine.Along with some commonly utilised Diversified adjusting techniques, “ABC” also incorporates a procedure called aspinlcorv5 “meningeal release”. This is mostly easily described as a ‘really BIG stretch of the whole spine’. When we move our spine, the soft spinal cord needs to be able to slide freely within the bony tube of the spine. Meningeal adhesions can prevent this, and are corrected with meningeal releases. Patients treated with this system tend to exhibit much quicker, and more extensive postural corrections than with more traditional techniques. More and more patients at this practice are switching over to this technique.

ActivatorACTIVATOR
The Activator is a hand held adjusting instrument, that has a spring-loaded mechanism which, when released, delivers a short impulse through a flat rubberised tip. This tip is placed over a joint to be adjusted. It is often preferred by patients who may be sensitive to manual adjusting, or is useful when manual or other adjusting techniques may not be appropriate. Only a very small number of patients have the Activator method at this practice, however there are Chiropractors that only use the Activator in their practice.

Kinesiology
This technique, used in it’s entirety is very complex, and relies on ‘muscle testing’ to help determine what might be the problem. By checking a variety of energy points (like acupuncture points), the Doctor can determine if various body functions are working correctly. The doctor will contact a specific point on the patient (usually somewhere on the front of the chest/abdomen), whilst testing the strength of a given muscle. Whilst Dr. Chris is well trained in a number of kinesiology-based methods, it is mostly utilised here for digestive, menstrual and infertility conditions.

Visceral Techniques
These techniques simply involve gentle manipulation of various organ structures, depending on the problem at hand. This technique is mostly used to treat digestive and menstrual complaints. This also works extremely well for babies/infants with colic or similar digestive problems
